LipoSelectionSM by VASER®

Sound Body Sculpting

Every year, thousands of men and women choose liposuction surgery to remove the fatty deposits that just won’t respond to diet and exercise. That’s why liposuction has become the number one procedure in the United States.

One of the most popular forms of liposuction to date has been the Tumescent Liposuction Technique. This safe and effective procedure has been performed in doctors’ offices for many years. Large volumes of saline solution, local anesthesia, and adrenaline are infused into the fatty area being treated. The fat is then removed through a small instrument called a cannula. The cannula is inserted into the fatty tissue through tiny incisions placed in inconspicuous locations. Your surgeon gently moves it around under your skin, suctioning away the unwanted fatty deposits. The procedure resculpts bulging areas to reveal more attractive contours.

VASER LipoSelection

Now, liposuction can be even more gentle and effective with VASER LipoSelection, a new technique that dissolves fat using sound energy. Once the tumescent fluids fully saturate the body, VASER uses high frequency sound waves to liquefy subcutaneous fat cells, making them easier to remove. The sound energy acts primarily on the fat cells and has little, if any, effect on the vascular, nervous, or connective tissues. With VASER your doctor can achieve smoother results, remove difficult fibrous fatty deposits and aspirate more fat.

What areas can be treated with VASER?

The most frequent areas treated by VASER in men are the “love handles”, breasts, abdomen and neckline. In women they include: thighs, hips, buttocks, stomach, knees, lower leg, cheeks, and double chins. Some women elect to have their fat recycled.

What are the benefits of VASER?

• IV sedation with local anesthesia
• VASER with ultrasound is more delicate
• Fat separation is easier
• There is less post operative drainage
• There is less bruising and swelling
• Quicker return to regular activities

The procedure and recovery

The procedure may be performed using local anesthesia with sedation. Side effects may include temporary swelling, bruising, soreness or a burning sensation. Possible risks are infection, skin loss, asymmetry, collection of blood beneath the skin that may require draining, or wavy, baggy or spotted skin. The patient feels better in one to three weeks and all bruising and swelling should subside within twelve weeks. Overeating will cause weight gain, but the treated area should remain proportionate.

What results should I expect?

Cosmetically speaking, results from VASER are measured in inches rather than pounds. The weight removed is not as important as the improvement in your body’s contour. Patients who have had VASER experience less pain, bleeding, bruising and recover faster.

For some patients, it is the improved self-image and self-acceptance that is the most important. With VASER, many patients are happier the next day when they take off their dressings to see a slimmer, more pleasing contour to their body.
