Keloid

Keloids are scar-like growths that can form in response to a form of trauma. The most common area are on the earlobes, usually in response to an ear piercing. However, other forms of trauma can cause keloids, like acne on the chest, physical injury, burns...

Keloids are treated by surgical and conservative means. Surgically, keloids can be excised, or treated with lasers or electrosurgery or cryosurgery, however, these methods are associated with high recurrence rates. Conservatively, keloids can be treated with steroid injections or creams or tapes. Interferon injections or a cream that induces interferon has been associated with treatment of keloids.
