Our Center in the Chicago downtown loop area is dedicated to the highest level of patient care. Chicago is a city known for dermatology, as there are many dermatologists in Chicago. We would like to play a part in making your experience with the specialty of dermatology a pleasant one. Dr. Memar is a board certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon with extensive training and experience in cosmetic surgery, serving the Chicago area. We specialize in surgical dermatology, including skin cancer detection and treatment. We offer the latest techniques in dermatologic cosmetic surgery, including Mohs micrographic surgery, hair transplantation, scar correction, laser hair removal, fat injection (microlipoinjection or fat transfer), liposuction, weekend facelift, and eyelid lift (blepharoplasty). We treat a variety of dermatologic conditions, including alopecia, acne, rosacea, warts, moles, skin cancer, melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma. Dermatology is a medical subspecialty that addresses the health and disease of skin, hair, nails, and mucosa. Dermatologists are experts in the anatomy, function, surgery and pathology of the skin. They are uniquely trained in clinical medicine, tissue pathology and surgery pertaining to the skin. Today, dermatologists are in the forefront of medical research, clinical practice, and surgical innovation having to do with the health and beauty of skin. The following conditions are just some of the most common conditions treated by Dr. Memar:
We transfer fat uniquely Recently, we have learned a great deal about the aging face. While before, it was thought that the skin becomes more flabby or loose, now we realize that the deep wrinkle formations and hollow areas of the face are greatly due to loss of facial tissue. As we age, fat disappears from the cheek bones, mid face, chin, and lips, and seems to accumulate in the jawline and neck. Other conditions, like trauma, acne scarring, HIV infection or HIV medications can also lead to facial fat loss. Recently, a new technique has been developed to turn back the clock and restore lost fat. The procedure is called (also known as fat transfer, fat injection, and fat cell transplantation). In this procedure, fat is gently removed from a fatty area, and then meticulously layered in the areas of the face requiring it. The fat graft then takes root in the new area and persists. The injection sites heal with virtually no visible scar. The procedure is performed comfortably and safely with local anesthesia, allowing for a quick recovery. Microlipoinjection can be used to sculpt facial contour and correct certain scars caused by trauma or acne. Accentuating the cheek fat pads can give the appearance of higher cheek bones, while augmenting the chin fat pad creates a strong chin. Microlipoinjection can fill mid face lipodystrophy from HIV or HIV medications. This three dimensional rejuvenation of the face has truly revolutionized the approach to total facial fat contouring. HIV, HAART, or a combination of virus and drug can present with a hollowing of certain parts of the face, with secondary accumulation of fat on the upper back (dorsocervical fat pad) and under the chin. This process has become known as HIV lipodystrophy. Some reports show an incidence of 2-60% in HIV patients taking protease inhibitors, while one study with a 5 year retrospective cohort showed a lipodystrophy prevalence of 13% in HIV positives taking protease inhibitors. Recent studies show that there is not a great difference between the different protease inhibitors when it comes to lipodystrophy, while previous studies indicated ritonavir/saquinavir as more commonly associated with HIV lipodystrophy. The median time to develop HIV lipodystrophy from time of starting protease inhibitors is 18 months. The treatment of HIV lipodystrophy includes: Our focus on liposuction in chicago is very unique The new micro-cannular
tumescent liposuction done in chicago has revolutionized liposuction surgery
done in chicago. Most patients have localized fat deposits and some of
our happiest patients are within twenty to thirty pounds of their ideal weight,
and have been stable at that weight for years. Some patients have certain bulges
irrespective of their weight and others are content with their weight, but would
be more comfortable if certain bulges were recontoured. The best candidates for
liposuction are in good health and have realistic expectations of the benefits
of liposuction.
With liposuction surgery,
both men and women can improve the contours of their bodies through a relatively
simple and safe technique. Liposuction surgery involves the removal of fat
cells from the body.
Liposuction is designed for those who
have specific areas of localized fat deposits and who have tried unsuccessfully
to eliminate them through diet, exercise and weight loss. Prior to liposuction surgery, a complete medical history is taken in order to evaluate the general health of the patient. Liposuction is almost always performed under local anesthesia. The "tumescent" liposuction procedure is used where a large amount of diluted local anesthetic is injected into the area. Tumescent liposuction has the advantage of reducing pain and bruising in the area. Dr. Memar then makes a small incision in the skin and inserts a micro cannula attached to a vacuum suction to start liposuction. This form of liposuction is a new method, where the size of the cannula used are so small that liposuction is now is made more safe, with less down time and more consistent results. The liquified fat is then removed by liposuction from the body. After the incisions are closed, a compressive dressing or bandage is applied to the area to prevent bleeding, reduce swelling and support the affected area. A compression garment is worn for about one week following liposuction. Following liposuction surgery, pain is minimal to moderate and is controlled with oral medication. Antibiotics are prescribed to prevent infection after liposuction. Most patients are completely ambulatory immediately following liposuction surgery but rest is recommended for the initial posto-liposuction period. Patients are usually able to return to normal activities within a few days after liposuction, although vigorous physical activity is discouraged immediately following liposuction. Our hair transplant practice in Chicago is very different Each patient is treated as a unique individual. Dr. Memar personally conducts each consultation, and performs each hair transplant procedure. The result from this approach is extremely high patient satisfaction and an international reputation for excellence. What drives our Chicago practice, quite simply, is excellence. We strive to have all of our patients be satisfied with their hair transplant results and try very hard to match the realistic expectations of our patients with what we can realistically achieve. Hair transplantation is simply the transferring of hair from a "permanent" area of the scalp to another area in which hair has fallen out due to heredity. In most men and women who bald (or thin out) on the top of their head, the hair on the back and sides of their head is relatively thick and destined to remain there for the rest of their lives. This "permanent" hair is harvested by painlessly removing narrow "strips" of hair, which are then meticulously cut up under magnification to produce hundreds of tiny hair grafts of 1-6 hairs each. By middle age (40’s and 50’s), approximately half of all men have developed some degree of Male Pattern Baldness. It is caused by heredity, which means that each man’s genes determine before his birth which hairs are to live for a lifetime and which are to prematurely die and fall out. In hair transplantation, these newly created tiny grafts of "permanent" hair are distributed artistically over the balding scalp according to a carefully planned pattern. These newly transferred hairs quickly take root and, after a short resting period of three months, grow – and keep on growing for the rest of your life. To create great hair transplant results, a good amount of artistic ability is necessary on the part of the surgeon. He must have a "feel" for how to aesthetically create natural, feathered gradients of hair that are totally undetectable to those who will encounter that patient in the years to come. After this new hair grows out, it can be washed, cut, or styled in whatever way you like. There is nothing fragile about transplanted hair. It can even be permed or colored. A person with a transplanted head of hair can sleep, swim, ski – in other words – do everything they every did before, knowing that once again they have their own hair back again and no one will know. |
